Venetian Macau Opens - August 28 2007
The Venetian Macau, the worlds biggest casino has become a reality. Costing a whooping $2.4 billion to bring to life, the Venetian Macau is built on the Cotai Strip, 4 square kilometers of land fusing two islands. It is built in the style of the Las Vegas strip and by U.S operator Las Vegas Sands Corp.
Basking in the success of his first Macau casino, the Sands, Las Vegas Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson told Reuters the $2.4 billion spent on the Venetian would be recovered in 3 to 5 years.
"You think I'm spending 2.4 billion dollars because I'm a wild-eyed, blue-skied craps shooter," Adelson, the world's 14th-richest man, said of his firm's total investment plans for the Cotai Strip. "I know what I'm doing. We've already done this in Vegas. There is no question about this,".
"All we're doing is taking the fully matured, completely evolved capital of entertainment called Las Vegas, and picking it up and dropping it here."
To symbolize the opening of the Venetian Macau,Las Vegas billionaire Sheldon Adelson and his wife, Dr. Miriam Adelson pulled a giant lever to set off fire crackers outside the property along the front of the Doges Palace building, a recreation of the palace in Venice, Italy.
